이번 강연에는 나노광전자학과 김영현 교수님의 초청으로 한국과학기술연구원 정대환 박사님을 모시고 세미나를 개최합니다.

5. 발표 내용

In this seminar, I will first talk about history of III-V material-based laser diodes for datacom/telecom applications. Then, integration methods of various III-V compound semiconductor materials onto Si will be followed. Then, silicon photonics will be discussed as a disruptive technology for data center and telecom applications. III-V lasers grown on Si using quantum dot structure will be presented, which shows promising integration approach for efficient and reliable light source onto silicon. The quantum dot lasers on silicon show a very low threshold current, temperature-insensitivity, and extrapolated device lifetimes more than 1 million hours. Other properties such as reflection sensitivities will also be discussed being compared to quantum well laser diodes.
